Recorder (Prelude II) One of the earliest woodwind instruments, also known as internal duct flutes. The recorder has a mouthpiece (a fipple) and is played like a whistle by blowing directly into the top of the instrument. The recorder has eight holes, one for the thumb and seven for the fingers, each producing a different note. Recorders are often used in classroom settings.
