Red curry paste is a fundamental ingredient in Thai cuisine, particularly in making red curry, one of the most popular Thai dishes known for its rich flavor and vibrant color. It's made by grinding together a variety of ingredients, creating a complex and aromatic paste that serves as the base for the curry. The typical ingredients in red curry paste include dried red chilies (which give the paste its characteristic color and heat), garlic, shallots, lemongrass, galangal (a type of ginger), kaffir lime zest, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, shrimp paste, and sometimes additional spices such as peppercorns or cinnamon. The proportions of these ingredients can vary depending on regional and personal preferences. To make red curry paste, the ingredients are traditionally pounded together using a mortar and pestle until they form a smooth paste. However, modern methods often involve using a food processor or blender for convenience. Red curry paste is incredibly versatile and can be used not only to make red curry but also to flavor a wide range of dishes, including soups, stir-fries, marinades, and even salad dressings. Its bold and spicy flavor adds depth to any dish it's used in, making it a staple in many kitchens, both in Thailand and around the world. Adjusting the amount of dried red chilies allows for customization of spiciness to suit individual tastes. Net Wt. 4 oz (114g)
