About the Artist Alicka Napanangka Brown Alicka Napanangka Brown was born in 1998 at Alice Springs Hospital, the closest hospital to Yuendumu, a remote Aboriginal community approximately 290 kilometres north-west of Alice Springs in the Northern Territory. Alicka paints with the internationally acclaimed Warlukurlangu Artists Aboriginal Corporation at Yuendumu. She is the daughter of artist Maria Nampijinpa Brown and the granddaughter of respected artist Wendy Nungarrayi Brown. Her sister, Antoinette Napanangka Brown, also paints with Warlukurlangu Artists. Growing up within a family of artists, Alicka developed a strong grounding in painting by watching her family work and listening to the ancestral stories passed down to her from childhood. Through her art, Alicka continues this rich family tradition, sharing important stories connected to Country, bush foods and Warlpiri cultural knowledge.
