This creeping evergreen to semi-evergreen perennial herb makes a beautiful ground cover with deep, lavender-red blooms. Perfect for filling between stepping stones, as it will tolerate light foot traffic and has a wonderful fragrance when leaves are crushed. Adds elegance to mixed beds or pots when allowed to trail over the edges. Care Thrives in average to very lean, neutral to alkaline soils. As a ground cover, space 12 to 15 in. apart; closer for faster fill. Trim lightly, just after flowering. In early spring, shear old foliage to one-half inch. Feed with an all-purpose fertilizer. Creeping thyme plants grow best in well-draining soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Like most herb plants, creeping thyme seems to thrive in poor soils. They will grow best in full sun, although they will tolerate some shade. Best grown in zones 4-9. Growth Habit Creeping thyme is a fast growing ground cover that forms a thick, mat-forming type of "carpet". At maturity, it reaches about 1-3" tall and 12-18" wide. It features fine, dark green, fragrant foliage with magenta-red flowers in early summer. Toxicity While safe for pets, eating large amounts may lead to mild digestive discomfort, such as vomiting or diarrhea. Deer resistant.
