Growth Habit: Evergreen fruit tree reaching 5–10 metres at maturity. Suitable for home gardens, orchards and large containers when young. Germination: Sow fresh seeds 10–15 mm deep in a free-draining seed-raising mix. Keep warm (20–30°C) and consistently moist but not waterlogged. Fresh seeds usually germinate within 2–6 weeks.Climate: Red pomelos grow well in warm North Island gardens. In the South Island they perform best under cover or in a warm, sheltered microclimate. Fruit: Produces very large fruit with a thick rind and sweet, juicy pink to red flesh. The flavour is milder and sweeter than grapefruit with very little bitterness. Flowers: Produces highly fragrant white blossoms during spring that attract bees and other beneficial pollinators. Fruiting: Typically begins producing fruit within 5–8 years from seed under good growing conditions. Care: Prefers full sun, fertile free-draining soil and regular watering while establishing.
