Our tests have found that the distance off the ground is the only way to ensure a surface such as grass remains unscorched - the way us Aussies tend to light a fire needs distance from the grass. RAISE YOUR FIRE PIT Made from Stainless Steel, the pivoting "scissor" design allows it to be used primarily as a base for the Red Roads Blaze-n-BBQ Fire Pits to raise them up to a standing height ensuring also the ground below is unaffected from heat damage. Our tests have found that the distance off the ground is the only safe way to ensure a surface such as grass remains unscorched - the way us Aussies tend to light a fire needs distance from the grass and our finding is that just 10cm or 15cm will not do anything to stop scorching. It has been reported that many caravan parks in Australia are now insisting on minimum heights off the ground for open fires... The pins on each corner ensure a stable platform for anchoring to the fire pits, as well as digging into the ground below. USE IT AS A FIRE PLACE Being multi-functional, we've include a large flat piece of stainless mesh with the Riser which can be used to hold a nice small (definitely not overly large) fire above the ground (though don't expect your nice lawn to survive). This secondary method of holding a fire is awesome for slow Tripod cooking! But this method is not intended as a replacement for a proper large fire pit such as the Red Roads Blaze-n-BBQ Fire Pits, so if you do intend to use the mesh with large fires, you might find yourself going through the Stainless Steel Mesh, so Spare Mesh can be purchased here.
