We harvest roughly twenty species of red macroalgae throughout the year, and the selection in each sampler shifts with tides, seasons, and natural growth cycles. Reds bring striking contrast, dynamic texture, and nutrient balance to saltwater aquariums and refugiums. Some species grow as branching bushes, others as flat blades, ribbons, fans, or pom-poms. Each pack feels like a curated snapshot of the reef. Because availability changes constantly, every order is unique. What You’ll Receive A curated mix of three or more red macroalgae species, selected for health, structure, and color at packing time. Species are chosen from ~20 reds we collect annually; availability varies naturally by season and weather conditions. Portions typically consist of 3-5 specimens roughly equaling 1 pint combined volume. While we carefully try to remove other algae, sponges, and tiny hitchhikers, it’s possible that a few “goodies” from the reef may tag along. It’s a natural part of receiving genuine wild-collected specimens!Many species may arrive paler or whitish in color. This is completely normal. Macroalgae shift their pigments inward during transport to protect from light and stress; color returns within a few days under good aquarium lighting and flow.
