Red Sprites Red sprites are a meteorological phenomenon that are rarely seen and even more rarely photographed, occuring in the mesosphere above thunderclouds. They are often seen concurrently with lightning strikes but are the result of a cold plasma discharge rather than the hot electric discharge of lightning. The red seen here fluoresces under black light to mimic the glow of its namesake. Splashed onto our chunky weight 100% superwash merino yarn 3 ply, 106 yds, 100 g, never from mulesing Hand dyed in Maine Actual color may vary slightly due to hand dyeing process and lighting. It is always recommended to alternate skeins to avoid unwanted color pooling if a project requires more than one. Hanks can be wound into cakes for an additional fee. Not recommended for long term storage or for more than 3 hanks per project due to loss of integrity in the fiber from prolonged tension on the yarn.
