“'Golden Hour'” is a term used to refer to the periods of time just after sunrise, and just prior to sunset, when the sun’s light is at its softest and most beautiful. 'Blue Hour' is a term for the periods just before sunrise, and just after sunset, in which the sun’s tones are much cooler and more subdued, due to the extra distance the light is traveling through earth’s atmosphere. "During the winter, when the sun’s position is lower on our horizon, these 'blue hours' can be much more enhanced, and occasionally I’m able to enjoy more of a 'red hour' here along Florida’s Gulf Coast. "This was just the case, as the sky and sand were bathed in cool, reddish-blue tones—colors that I absolutely love when paired with our sugar-white sands. In a manner and at a time that I couldn’t have choreographed better had I tried, this reddish egret took flight, allowing the reddish light to brilliantly illuminate its reddish wings.
