In the United States, 80% of Indigenous women and girls experience violence in their lifetime. Native women and girls are 10 times more likely to be murdered than non-Indigenous people. In 2016, more than 5,700 Indigenous women were reported missing in the U.S., but only 116 cases were officially recorded in federal databases. The real numbers are likely much higher due to underreporting and poor data collection. We deserve better.
