Why This Watch Matters This Tissot from the 1950s is just oozing with vintage charm. The Full Story As you may know, Tissot and Omega merged in 1930. After the economic crisis of 1929, Tissot was in trouble and, thus, found a reprieve in partnering with Omega. This relationship explains why many Tissot chronograph and time-only pieces utilize a similar design as those from Omega. Where Tissot differentiates itself from Omega in this period is price point and rarity – we will not offer another watch exactly like this and it happens to be in extremely crisp condition. Several aspects of this Tissot are worth highlighting. First, the steel case measures in at an oversized-for-the-time 35mm in diameter and 43mm lug-to-lug. The drilled lugs add just the right amount of flair. The luminous sword hands strikingly resemble those of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Geophysic reference E168. The dial is absolutely beautiful featuring luminous-Arabic numerals and the incredible “Tissot” signature. The screwback case emphasizes its antimagnetic, shock-resistant, and waterproof attributes. The watch features a manual wind movement and remains unpolished. We paired the watch with our Bedford suede strap in sand to play off of the lume patina here. The case is strong with light scratches and nice edges to the subtly faceted lugs. The case has some light nicks on the edges. The bezel edges have remained sharp. The engravings on the caseback are strong and clearly visible. The dial has developed a patina with consistent light spotting throughout and a few tiny scratches and marks. The lume on the dial has developed patina and has aged to a dark cream color. The lume on the hands has also developed patina and matches that of the dial well. The hands have developed patina. The crystal shows crazing above the numerals though this does not impact the readability of the watch much at all. The crown is correctly unsigned. The dial, case, and movement are signed by Tissot.
