Mixed-media abstract painting Dimensions: 30 x 20 inches (762 x 508mm) Stretched canvas. This is a very chunky, 1.5 inch deep canvas. (38mm). The edges are painted black. Materials: Acrylic paints Metal Leaf (gold) About the painting Reflecting Time was inspired by spending time in South Wales, UK. I was sitting beside the River Mellte in the Brecon Beacons and found a quiet pool surrounded by the oranges, greens, golds and yellows of early autumn, reflecting on the water. It was so relaxing and lovely to be there. The River Mellte is known for its spectacular waterfalls, but I found my inspiration in a quite, more secluded spot. The painting was built up in layers of thick acrylic paint, applied with pallet knives and I added some metal leaf (gold). It has a lot of texture, which is seen when the painting is side lit. The more subtle marks and colours are see when the painting is lit with flat lighting. This means the painting will look slightly different throughout the day as the light changes.
