This professional gemological refractometer is designed for accurate measurement of the refractive index (RI) of gemstones and transparent materials. Refractive index is an important optical property used by gemologists to help identify gemstones and distinguish between materials with similar appearances. Featuring a clear optical system with an RI measuring range of approximately 1.30–1.81, the refractometer is suitable for testing a wide variety of gemstones. The durable optical glass testing plate provides a reliable surface for making contact between the gemstone and refractometer fluid. Available with or without a built-in light source, allowing you to select the version that best suits your working environment. Key Features Professional gemological refractometer RI measuring range: approx. 1.30–1.81 Accurate refractive index measurement High-quality optical glass testing plate Clear and easy-to-read optical scale Fast gemstone testing and identification Suitable for a wide variety of gemstones Available with or without built-in light Ideal for professional and educational gemmology Suitable for laboratories, jewellers and appraisers Two Models Available With Built-In LightFeatures integrated LED illumination for convenient and uniform viewing of the RI scale without requiring a separate external light source. Without Built-In LightDesigned for use with a suitable external monochromatic light source, making it ideal for traditional gemological laboratory setups. Specifications Product Type: Gemological Refractometer Measurement: Refractive Index (RI) RI Range: Approx. 1.30–1.81 Testing Plate: Optical glass Viewing: Optical eyepiece Light Options: With built-in LED / Without built-in light Sample Type: Transparent gemstones and suitable transparent materials Contact Liquid: Required for standard gemstone testing Application: Gemstone identification and optical analysis Use: Professional / Laboratory / Educational How to Use:Apply a small amount of suitable refractometer contact liquid to the testing plate and carefully position a suitable polished surface of the gemstone onto the plate. View through the eyepiece and read the RI boundary line on the scale. For accurate results, always follow correct gemological testing procedures and use a contact liquid appropriate for the refractometer and material being examined. Why Use a Gemological Refractometer? Refractive index is one of the fundamental optical properties used in gemology. Measuring RI can significantly narrow down the possible identity of an unknown gemstone and provides valuable information when used alongside other gemological tests. This refractometer combines a wide 1.30–1.81 measuring range, durable optical testing plate and straightforward operation, making it a practical instrument for professional gemstone examination. Important: Refractive index testing is an identification aid and should be interpreted alongside other appropriate gemological tests. Suitable refractometer contact liquid is required for standard testing.
