Refuge was designed from meditations on the ways we seek comfort, relief, direction, and steadiness in everyday life, and the invitation throughout Scripture to return to God first. Behind the Design As Prayer Scarves approached its fourth anniversary, I found myself reflecting on what God’s people need most in a world that feels increasingly heavy and difficult to navigate. The answer felt both timely and timeless: we need to seek God first, abide in Him, and let Him guide and steady us. Refuge became one of the words that invitation took shape through. The verses on this scarf were chosen and arranged intentionally to build a sense of refuge around the wearer — beginning with God’s invitation to come to Him, moving into His promises to answer, guide, protect, and give rest, and surrounding the believer with promises of fortress, shelter, hiding place, and peace. The design itself reflects those themes through an ancient stone tower, vines representing fruitfulness in God’s presence, and the phrase “The Ancient of Days is Your Ever Present Help” between the pillar of cloud and pillar of fire that guided God’s people through the wilderness. Who It Is For This scarf was designed for those carrying heavy thoughts, difficult decisions, fear, grief, uncertainty, or spiritual weariness. It speaks to the person trying to discern what to do next, the person overwhelmed by the state of the world, the one who has been seeking comfort in things that cannot truly sustain them, and also the one who already has the instinct to withdraw and seek stillness. More than anything, Refuge speaks to the believer who desires to return to God as their first place of rest, guidance, and covering. It was also made for those who already have a testimony of making God their refuge — those who can look back and see the fruit, stability, wisdom, and growth that came from seeking Him in turbulent times.
