Artist Statement: The original painting that this print was taken from was created to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Pirongia Annual Craft Day. The image will be used to represent the Craft Day in advertising and media from August 2019 onwards. It features Pirongia Mountain, the Waipa River and the recently released Kokako. Kokako were removed from the mountain a number of years ago due to threats by predators. With pest control now in place, descendants of the original birds were released back into the forest park and are successfully breeding.25% of the proceeds from the sale of the original painting was donated to the Pirongia Te Aroaro o Kahu Restoration Society to support their ongoing work re-establishing the Kokako.
