The MG/MS PCR Test is a nucleic acid–based diagnostic test that detects Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) and Mycoplasma synoviae (MS) in poultry samples. It is intended to help identify these two common Mycoplasma pathogens in birds or flocks with respiratory concerns. Important: This test screens only for MG and MS. It does not test for other respiratory viruses, bacteria, or poultry diseases. How to Use This Test Testing sick birds within a flock: A pooled sample is the best option when birds in a flock are showing respiratory signs. Submit samples from affected and clinically normal birds together for one overall flock-level result. A positive pooled result indicates that MG and/or MS was detected within the submitted pool, but it does not identify which individual bird is positive. A positive sample indicates the flock has been exposed and should be considered positive. Screening new flock additions: Purchase one test per bird when screening before introducing new members to an established flock - ideally during a quarantine period. Each bird must have its own separately collected and labeled sample, allowing results to be associated with that specific bird.
