Instead, the lift-up lid can be opened to reveal a generous storage area inside. We believe this chest was constructed from a vintage bureau and is crafted from solid mahogany. The drawer fronts remain, and the original drop-down lid has been used for the top. The main carcass including the solid sides have most likely been crafted from the body of the original bureau. The previous darker finish has been stripped back, and multiple coats of hard-wearing matte lacquer have been applied. This provides a durable, long-lasting finish while highlighting the natural grain of the mahogany. There are age-related marks, cracks and small dents throughout, which are consistent with the piece’s history and add to its overall character.
