This CHRONICLE depicts a very unique and dramatic temple enclosed within a small Chinese town called Shangri-la. The temple is held high by a column of bricks and stone, and it dominates the buildings surrounding it, its evening golden glow contrasting with the dark sky. As the sun is setting behind it, there is a slight gradient against the clouds that only adds to the rising temple. This is REWARD. STORY I thought long and hard about what I wanted to name this CHRONICLE. Sorting through the vision I had for it, I decided on "REWARD", as the name is suited for the idea behind the scene. The locals in Shangri-la follow a unique branch of Mahayana Buddhism, called Tibetan Buddhism. Many people will travel to this temple to practice, strengthen, and add to their beliefs: rebirth, karma, merit, etc. While the temple itself isn't the literal reward, it stands up as a basis of a Tibetan Buddhist's goal. It is peaceful, like they desire to be peaceful; it is spacious, like they desire their minds to be spacious, and so on and so on. This photograph is meant to capture the limit of the rewards we can receive as mere humans. No matter how tall we build our foundations, we cannot touch dimensional heavens. No matter how beautiful our decorations are, they cannot cut through space-time. We are incapable of touching the forces that hold up existence. Depending on what you believe, I want this CHRONICLE to be a reminder that we are only human, and that in order to reach higher than the sky, we need someone to do it for us. In my case, I believe that God came down to Earth and gifted me a way to see Him when I pass away. Thank you for reading.
