Glow is built on an American wild ale base layered with açaí, prickly pear, and passionfruit, then finished with a measured dose of sea salt — a technique that tempers the acidity while drawing out the fruit's natural sweetness. The result sits in the broader tradition of gose-influenced sour ales, though Rhinegeist classifies it simply as a fruited sour.Tasting NotesAroma: Passionfruit and nectarine lead, followed by softer notes of açaí berry and a faint mineral quality from the sea salt. The overall impression is bright and inviting without heavy funk.Taste: The entry is immediately fruity — peach and passionfruit dominate early, giving way to prickly pear at mid-palate with a subtle rolled-oat smoothness backing the tartness. The sourness is present but restrained; the sea salt rounds the edges and keeps the acidity from becoming one-dimensional. Medium-light body and champagne-like carbonation make each sip feel crisp and effervescent.Finish: Clean and relatively short, leaving behind traces of sour plum and apple peel. The salt lingers just enough to encourage another sip without drying the palate. How to Drink GlowGlow drinks best cold, straight from the can or poured into a tulip glass to capture the aromatics. Its low ABV and balanced tartness make it an ideal session beer on warm days. For cocktail-curious drinkers, try a Sour Shandy by blending Glow with fresh lemonade for doubled citrus brightness; a Berliner Spritz combining Glow with elderflower liqueur and a splash of sparkling water for a low-proof aperitif; or a Tropical Michelada where Glow's built-in sea salt and fruit pair naturally with lime juice, hot sauce, and a Tajín rim.Best For Backyard cookouts and outdoor gatherings where sessionability matters Introducing craft beer newcomers to sour ales without overwhelming tartness Pairing with spicy dishes that benefit from fruit-forward, salty contrast Adding variety to a mixed craft beer cooler alongside IPAs and lagers Frequently Asked QuestionsWhat does Glow taste like? Glow delivers bright passionfruit, peach, and prickly pear flavors over a clean, moderate sourness, finished with a light sea-salt minerality that keeps it balanced and refreshing. How does Glow compare to Dogfish Head SeaQuench Ale? Both use sea salt in a sour ale framework, but SeaQuench leans toward lime and black lime with a kolsch-gose-berliner hybrid base at 4.9% ABV, while Glow is more tropical, built around açaí and passionfruit at a slightly lower 4.5% ABV.Is Glow good for sour beer beginners? Yes — its tartness is moderate rather than puckering, and the sea salt and fruit sweetness soften the acidity, making it one of the more approachable fruited sours available.Where is Glow made? Glow is brewed at Rhinegeist Brewery in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio, inside a historic building that once housed the Christian Moerlein bottling operation. What foods pair well with Glow? Fish tacos with mango salsa echo the tropical fruit; Thai green curry finds balance against the salt and acidity; grilled shrimp with citrus marinades complement the passionfruit; fresh goat cheese on crostini mirrors the beer's tangy character; and fruit-forward desserts like key lime pie extend the tart theme. What sizes does Glow come in? Glow is commonly available in a six-pack of 12 oz cans.Is Glow worth the price? Glow positions as a mid-range craft sour ale, and its combination of three distinct tropical fruits plus sea salt delivers noticeably more complexity than many entry-level sours in the same price tier. Why Glow? The sea salt addition is the detail that separates Glow from the wave of fruit-dumped sours that flooded the market in recent years. Rather than relying on sweetness alone, the salt works as a flavor bridge — brightening the açaí and prickly pear while trimming the lactic edge. An 87 score on BeerAdvocate and strong community feedback on Untappd (3.6 out of 5 across more than 5,700 ratings) confirm that the formula resonates with a wide range of palates. At 4.5% ABV, it remains genuinely sessionable without sacrificing the fruit intensity that makes it worth reaching for in the first place.
