Riccia Fluitans (Crystalwort) is a well-recognized floating plant, made popular by renowned aquascaper Takashi Amano. It can be grown free-floating, where it forms thick mats at the surface, or attached directly to driftwood and rocks. When grown attached, keep it trimmed or it will eventually grow upward and break free to float. It can also be grown as a foreground carpet when attached to stainless steel mesh and placed on the substrate. Skill Level Easy CO2 Optional Requires Aqua Soil No Type Floating Max Height N/A (floating or low mesh-mounted carpet) Placement Surface (floating) or foreground (mesh-mounted) Light Level Low to Medium (10-40 PAR) Origin Cosmopolitan (widespread) Other Size, shape, and color vary depending on tank conditions, as with any live plant. Care & Planting: Float freely, or attach to hardscape/mesh with thread. Trim regularly to maintain shape and prevent pieces from breaking free unintentionally. Avoid drastic changes in water parameters, which can cause melt and rotting.
