Released in 1975, "Ride a Wild Pony" is an Australian-American family adventure produced by Walt Disney and directed by Don Chaffey. Robert Bettles and Eva Griffith star as two children from very different backgrounds who both claim ownership of the same pony, setting off a dispute that divides their small Australian community. Adapted from James Aldridge’s novel "A Sporting Proposition", the film was shot largely on location in rural Australia and used a predominantly Australian cast. Its sensitive treatment of childhood, disability, class and companionship has helped it endure as one of Disney’s more thoughtful live-action family productions of the 1970s.
