Ride the Cyclone a darkly comic musical about six teenagers whose lives are cut short in a freak accident riding the malfunctioning Cyclone roller coaster. The Amazing Karnak, a mechanical fortune-teller, declares that he can bring one of them back to life, but only if the group can agree who deserves to come back. Brooke Maxwell and Jacob Richmond’s score is as eclectic and surprising as the story itself—shifting from pop anthems to hip-hop, Motown, Reggae, and even spooky carnival waltzes. Since its 2009 premiere in Canada, Ride the Cyclone has been produced Off-Broadway and at numerous regional theatres around the world. Its inventive score, ensemble-driven storytelling, and blend of dark humor and compassion have helped it earn a devoted cult following.
