The original Ridge Runt is a slope classic. It had good looks and was dirt cheap, always a great recipe. But there was a big issue, they didn't fly all that well. I don't recall wh y we picked the Ridge Runt for a redesign, but I am glad we did, it turned out great. We started off with some ideas on how we might build a traditional looking balsa model using new ideas. Our new Quick Build method takes the work out of building. We analyzed every part with complex geometry or fasteners and then use our 3D printing experience to produce light and strong assemblies that locks into our wooden parts. This makes a straight fuselage that is stronger, more durable and lighter. I know what you are thinking, the 3D prints will be fragile like all of those 3D printed planes you have seen, nope, we are using high quality filaments that are reinforced with carbon fiber strands. They are tough, they are durable, they have no issues with heat. We think you will agree, this is a much better way to build models. For the flying qualities we looked at reducing the overall drag and greatly improving the wing. We started with a very strong spar system with clean modern airfoils blending across the entire span. The new airfoils give great authority to the ailerons making roll response nice and crisp. We made the wing a simple structure that slips right into place. The complexity is again housed in a 3D printed center section with all supports for the spars, servos and wing mounts and is then covered with balsa for a clean traditional look and easy covering. The ribs all slot into the shear web and sub trailing edges. Design, build a test unit, and redesign. That was the story with the T-tail. I lost count how many times we redesigned to find the right mix of weight and strength mixed with ease of build. And no discussion of a t-tail is complete without talking about the linkage for the elevator. We ended up selecting an MP Jet double wall pushrod that is carefully routed through the tail to minimize any play in the system. The pushrod is secured at every bulkhead and works very well. When you buy the Ridge Runt Evo you are getting some of the very best laser cut wood on the market, but we pack it with carbon fiber reinforced sub assemblies and bulkheads. You get a plane that is fun to build and fun to fly! We even include the quality Orbit Eris servos. What you want to add an electric motor? The front bulkhead is also a standard Speed 400 motor mount. If you like the front nose block can be mounted with screws to this bulkhead so you can switch back and forth between pure glider and electric setups. Plenty of room in the fuselage for either configuration. The radio hatch is held in place with strong magnets at the rear.
