Build the practical knowledge and foundational skills needed to plan lifts and rig loads safely around cranes and hoisting equipment. Bigfoot Academy’s Rigging Fundamentals Course combines instructor-led classroom learning with hands-on training. Participants learn how to inspect rigging equipment, estimate load weights, identify a load’s centre of gravity, select appropriate slings and hardware, calculate sling capacities, communicate with crane operators, and recognize common lifting hazards. The course is delivered by an experienced crane and rigging instructor using real-world examples and practical exercises. It is designed to help new and developing riggers make safer decisions and become more confident when supporting lifting operations. Successful participants receive a Fulford Level 1 Rigger Certificate of Completion Digital Wallet Card, valid for three years. Course Outline Morning: Theory Training The morning portion of the Level 1 Rigging Fundamentals program focuses on classroom theory. This section provides students with the foundational knowledge and practical understanding needed to recognize, understand, and apply safe rigging practices in the workplace. Rigging Terminology Hand & Radio Signals Determining Load Weight Determining Load Centre of Gravity Knot Tying Rigging Inspection Slings and Hitches Using Rigging Charts Sling Tension Calculation + WLL Estimating Sling Angles Correct Use of Tag Lines Lift Planning Afternoon: Hands-On Training The hands-on training builds on the theory covered in the Level 1 Rigging Fundamentals program. This practical section gives participants the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a controlled training environment and develop the basic skills required to perform safe rigging tasks on site. Students will: Estimate the weight of actual loads and determine their centre of gravity. Develop basic lift plans, select and inspect appropriately rated rigging equipment, and apply suitable hitches for safe load movement. Complete site hazard assessments and use standard hand signals and taglines to guide loads safely to their intended locations. Receive ongoing instruction and feedback from the Fulford Certified instructor throughout the practical training. Certificate of Completion Participants who successfully complete the Rigging Fundamentals training receive a: Fulford Level 1 Rigger Certificate of Completion Digital Wallet Card. The Certificate of Completion is valid for three years and confirms that the participant has completed the required Rigging Fundamentals theory and practical skills training.
