After 40 years of observing mayfly duns on the water and comparing them to the flies we imitate them with, I had a simple but somewhat profound revelation. Duns sit on the water no t in the water. Their bodies don't touch the water and their tails are nowhere near the surface. When fish look up at duns, there is nothing more than a light semi-round impression of the insect, and that impression is far smaller than the impression of a typical parachute-style fly with a tail that supports it. Most duns we fish have an imprint more like a spinner, and that just isn't right. This fly addresses these shortcomings and has a small light footprint complimented by a strong buoyant wing profile.
