My first ever painting of wildlife was a pair of wood ducks, and I've been fascinated by them ever since. I'm amazed at how fast they appear at first light, whistling through hardwood treetops, ducking and diving down to the water and landing with a soft splash, often before you can even turn to identify where the whistling is coming from. They're also spunky and energetic, almost always on the move. Their plumage is radiant and their habitat is equally rich in color. I painted this piece for the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition and let my followers on Instagram submit titles for it. I felt "Ripple Effect" was a perfect fit for the title, and the painting actually sold during setup for the show.
