A story about discovering, recovering and uncovering the beauty in ugliness, The River is a vivid, poetic and unflinching glimpse into the intersecting lives of marginalized people in Whitehorse, Yukon. The River is an episodic, nonlinear narrative told by members of the largely untraceable ghost population of Whitehorse: a derelict vagrant, a missing high school girl, a Tilley hat wearing tourist, a transient worker, a local homeless man and even an alien abductee. In Whitehorse looking for something to hold on to, instead they become part of a bleak, unrelenting and constantly shifting landscape. Like the rushing currents of the Yukon River, these disparate voices take us on an uncontrolled journey through a world of longing and belonging that is real and imagined, individual yet universal.
