River Valley is New Zealand's original adventure lodge, located near Taihape. We're a family-owned and operated business, which started out on the family farm back in the early 80s. The lodge is based right alongside the Rangitikei River, which offers some of the best rafting in the country. We run half-day, grade 5 rafting trips (recently voted one of the top 8 white water rafting trips in the world by Red Bull!) or full-day scenic rafting trips (great for families with kids). We also offer multi-day river holidays; by raft on the Rangitikei and Ngaruroro rivers, and in wooden dories on the Whanganui river. We run horse treks from River Valley Stables. We use natural horsemanship techniques to train our horses, and ride them barefoot and bit-less with rope halters. We have some great multi-day riding holidays, either based at the lodge or out exploring the beautiful backcountry of NZ. And then we have the lodge itself, nestled alongside the river. We have a range of accommodation from deluxe riverside ensuite rooms to shared bunk rooms. Our on-site restaurant serves home-cooked, country-style meals, with a focus on ethical, locally sourced and sustainable ingredients. Over the last few years, we have put a lot of work into extending our vegetable gardens, which now produce a lot of the food for the restaurant. We also have a fully licensed bar. The lodge is a unique venue if you are looking for somewhere to host an event, wedding or conference.
