One curved shape, ten different quilts. That is the idea behind Rob Pete & Friends. The Rob Pete shape is a pointed petal, and the Quiltsmart method builds it with printed interfacing, so there is no curved piecing anywhere in the book. The cover quilt is the classic Rob Pete in red and white, all interlocking petals and rings. From that single shape the book draws ten designs, from a Glorified 9-Patch to Dutch Tulips to a scrappy London Bridge, each one sized from a table runner up to a king. What's Included This listing is for the book, which includes printed interfacing. It is not a finished quilt, and fabric is not included. Rob Pete & Friends is a 48-page full-color book with complete instructions for all ten patterns, the Rob Pete method, fabric and tool guidance, and yardage and cutting charts for every size from table runner to king. It also includes three panels of printed interfacing, one each of the Rob Pete, Circles, and Tulips & Toes shapes, enough to complete one table runner project. Additional interfacing panels for larger quilts are sold separately. How the Quiltsmart Method Works The Rob Pete shape has curves, but you never piece a curve. Sew a fabric piece to the printed interfacing on the line, trim, turn it right side out, fuse it to the background, and zigzag the edge. The interfacing carries the curve, so the work is straight sewing and topstitching. One shape, repeated and arranged different ways, is what gives the ten patterns their range. The Ten Patterns All ten are built from the same Rob Pete shape: Rob Pete Berry Pie Black-Eyed Susan Bright Hopes Dolly Madison's Workbox Dutch Tulips Glorified 9-Patch London Bridge Pumpkin Seed Rose Dream What You'll Need Fabric requirements vary by pattern and size, and the book gives full yardage and cutting charts for each, from table runner to king. In general you choose fabrics for the Rob Pete shapes and the background, plus backing, batting, and binding. The three included interfacing panels make one table runner; for a larger quilt in any of the patterns, order additional Quiltsmart interfacing. 100% cotton is recommended, along with the usual quilting kit: rotary cutter, mat, and ruler, an appliqué pressing sheet, and an open-toe foot. Perfect For Quilters drawn to curved designs like the Double Wedding Ring or orange peel who want to skip curved piecing Anyone who likes a lot of mileage from one technique: ten patterns, table runner to king Confident beginners and seasoned quilters alike, since the method is approachable but the designs look intricate A reference book to make from again and again, with a table runner's worth of interfacing to start Why You'll Love This Book Ten patterns from one shape is a genuinely good deal in a quilt book. Learn the Rob Pete method once and every project is open to you, from a quick table runner to a king-size quilt. The designs do not look like they share a shape, which is part of the fun: Dutch Tulips, Pumpkin Seed, and Glorified 9-Patch read as completely different quilts. The no-curved-piecing method is the other draw. Curves like these usually mean careful pinning and easing. Here the interfacing does that work, so the sewing stays flat and straightforward and the finished curves come out smooth. It makes a classic, traditional-looking quilt approachable for a confident beginner. The included interfacing gets a first project started right away, and the yardage charts for every size mean the book keeps earning its place on the shelf long after that first table runner.
