In 1998 sculptor Robert Graham was commissioned by the Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles to create the monumental bronze doors which would serve as entryway into the planned Cath edral of Our Lady of Los Angeles, the first major cathedral to be constructed in the United States in the new millennium. The Great Bronze doors were installed in May, 2002 and the Cathedral itself opens to the public in September, 2002. This book details the process of Grahams work and the iconography of the thirty-foot by thirty-foot, twenty-five ton bronze doors, and puts the work in a historical perspective.
