Robinair R-ID Refrigerant Analyzer The useful thing about the R-ID is not that it identifies refrigerant — plenty of instruments do that. It is that it plugs into the machine you a lready own. The R-ID connects directly to any SAE J2843 or J3030 A/C service machine that has an external USB port and no identifier of its own, which means a shop facing the identification requirement does not have to replace a perfectly good service machine to meet it. It adds the missing capability to the equipment already in the bay. Used on its own it is equally straightforward: connect it to the vehicle, and it analyses what is in the A/C system and tells you whether the charge is good or bad before anything is recovered. Why identification stopped being optional Checking the charge before recovery is a requirement of R-1234yf service, not a refinement of it, and the reason is contamination. A modern service machine holds refrigerant internally and reuses it.
