ROBSTRIDE03 QDD 60N.m integrated joint motor module (Pre-sale, available again in 4 weeks starting now)
ROBSTRIDE03 is a 60 N.m peak-torque actuator for more heavily loaded robot joints. This quasi-direct-drive robot joint motor integrates a brushless motor, a 9:1 machined-steel redu cer, FOC drive electronics and dual magnetic encoders in one assembly. It provides 60 N.m peak torque for transient motion demands within its electrical and thermal limits. The actuator uses a 48 V nominal supply and 1 Mbps CAN communication. Its 20 N.m rated torque is tested at 100 rpm with heat sinking. The 200 rpm +/- 10% no-load speed is a separate operating condition. The 9:1 reducer and dual magnetic encoders provide an integrated platform for manipulator and legged-robot experiments that need more torque than the 17 N.m models. For robotic arms, legged-robot prototypes, education and custom automation, the integrated module reduces the number of separate drive components to package. Its 880 g +/- 20 g mass should be considered alongside load inertia, mounting stiffness and cooling when selecting a joint. The technical files below support CAD integration, CAN configuration and bench commissioning. Features Integrated QDD module - Combines motor, reduction gearing, FOC electronics and encoder feedback for compact robotic joint integration. 60 N.m peak torque - Provides transient output capability; choose the motion profile using the torque-speed and overload data, not peak torque alone. 20 N.m rated torque - Requires heat sinking and is tested at 100 rpm. Dual magnetic encoders - Provides integrated position feedback for closed-loop joint control and commissioning. 9:1 machined-steel gearing - Balances output torque, speed and packaging for the intended mechanism. The 9:1 reducer and dual magnetic encoders provide an integrated platform for manipulator and legged-robot experiments that need more torque than the 17 N.m models. 48 V nominal power - Uses the 24-60 V DC operating range specified in the linked user manual. Design wiring, protection and braking-energy handling for the complete system. FOC and bidirectional control - Supports CW/CCW motion with documented current, velocity, position and operation-control workflows. 1 Mbps CAN interface - Supports command and feedback exchange with a compatible host. Peak torque and no-load speed are separate limits, not a simultaneous continuous operating point. Hardware OverviewTorque-Speed PerformanceUse the 48 V torque-speed curve with the overload and thermal tests in the user manual. Operating duration and cooling determine whether a commanded point is sustainable.Mechanical InstallationUse the model-specific mounting drawing for the bolt pattern and shaft clearance. Check screw engagement and support the load without forcing the housing.Power and CAN ConnectionsThe power connector and CAN connector are separate. Verify the illustrated CAN_H, CAN_L, GND and VBAT+ orientation before applying power.Commission with conservative limits. Secure the mechanism, verify supply and CAN wiring, begin unloaded or lightly loaded, and stop motion before changing control modes. ApplicationRobot joint developmentBuild compact rotary joints for arms, legs, gimbals, and custom motion platforms. The 60 N.m peak capability provides transient torque margin, but the 20 N.m heat-sink-tested rating and the motion cycle govern sustained use.Humanoid and quadruped researchPrototype controlled joint axes where integrated actuator packaging is useful. Evaluate the 9:1 reduction, mass distribution, acceleration torque and impact loading together. Validate each gait or movement cycle on a secured prototype before increasing the operating limits.Robotic armsDevelop shoulder, elbow, wrist, or gripper rotary axes for lab automation and manipulation research. Check the load moment at each arm position rather than using payload mass alone. The 20 N.m rated-torque conditions are important for sustained movement and holding tasks.Mobile roboticsIntegrate controlled rotary motion into AMR, AGV, inspection robot, and mechatronic subsystems. Use the 48 V supply and CAN interface as part of the complete subsystem design. Verify cable routing, mounting stiffness and host-side stop behavior before autonomous operation.Education and trainingTeach actuator control, encoder feedback, FOC concepts, and joint tuning workflows. Explore feedback, current commands, velocity and position modes on a bench fixture. Start with the model-specific manual and keep motion limits conservative while learning the control workflow.Custom automationUse in low-speed high-torque fixtures, pan-tilt systems, haptic rigs, and test benches. For repeatable test fixtures and custom axes, log position, speed and current while tuning. Plan a suitable thermal path and motion duty cycle, and verify stop behavior before unattended use. ROBSTRIDE04 provides 120 N.m peak torque, a 9:1 reduction and 1420 g +/- 20 g mass. Compare the supply voltage, encoder configuration, mounting and heat-sink requirements as well as torque. What distinguishes the ROBSTRIDE03 configuration? The 9:1 reducer and dual magnetic encoders provide an integrated platform for manipulator and legged-robot experiments that need more torque than the 17 N.m models. What are the rated and peak torque figures? The peak torque is 60 N.m. Rated torque is 20 N.m at the 100 rpm test point. Heat sinking is required. Peak torque is a transient capability and must not be treated as a continuous holding rating. What power supply does it require? The nominal supply is 48 V DC. The linked user manual specifies a 24-60 V DC operating range. Size the supply, wiring and protection for the complete system, including voltage transients during braking. What encoder feedback and communication does it use?It uses dual magnetic encoders, 14-bit single-turn absolute encoder resolution and a 1 Mbps CAN bus. Check the model-specific command scaling and the installed firmware before integrating it with a host controller.Does the motor option include a debug board? The motor option contains one ROBSTRIDE03 actuator module and excludes the debug board. The Debug Board option contains one debug board accessory and no motor.Which control modes and software resources are available? The user manual covers current, velocity, position and operation-control workflows, along with host-software setup. Use a compatible CAN interface and the correct firmware protocol. The official Python CAN examples cover RS00-RS06 through Linux SocketCAN.Can it run continuously at peak torque? No. Peak torque is a transient output limit. Continuous operation depends on speed, winding temperature, heat sinking, ambient conditions and load cycle. Check the thermal and overload curves for the planned duty cycle. Is it suitable for outdoor or exposed installations?Do not assume this model has the sealed housing of ROBSTRIDE02-IP67. Select enclosure protection, cooling and cable protection for the installation and use a separately specified sealed model where required. What should be checked before mechanical integration?Check the 106 x 106 x 56 mm envelope, the exact mounting drawing, screw depth, output clearance and cable routing. Calculate gravity and acceleration torque, support the mechanism securely, and begin commissioning with conservative current and speed limits.
