The chair rocks on, and there is no one there to rock it.On a porch swallowed in darkness, a single chair holds its motion, caught between one sway and the next. The floorboards beneath it have been worn pale by years of feet and weather that are no longer present, and a single hard light falls from above, cutting the whole scene out of a deep, pure black. It is a portrait of absence built from stillness, or its opposite, movement with nobody left to claim it.No paint. No print. No ink. The chair, the pale grain of the boards, the fall of shadow into that surrounding dark, all of it is scratched into the surface of the acrylic glass, drawn out through controlled surface damage rather than applied onto it. The image exists because material was taken away, not laid down.The image is always present, even in a dim room. Under direct light the controlled scratches catch and hold it, the contrast deepens, and the fine grain and floating dust seem to hang a little longer in the air. Light does not create the image here. It sharpens it, and the piece reads differently from every angle without ever losing what it shows.Seen from across a room, it settles into something monumental and quiet, one object holding an entire porch in silence and negative space. Move closer and that certainty dissolves into a field of fine controlled scratches, resolving back into the whole only once you step away again.
