Last year was the first year we grew these and sold them bare root. We saved a few hundred and potted them up. They grew very well and naturally develop into nice twiggy little trees in a short time. Naturally small foliage and upright growth makes these very desirable for shohin size trees. Grown from seed at Kaede Bonsai-en, these trees are well established in 2 1/4" containers. Pictures taken in the fall of 22’. During the growing season the foliage turns a deep green color. Last fall we saw beautiful purple and red foliage. Foliage can stay on all winter or you can cut off the leaves and new ones will emerge the next spring. A very forgiving species. They prefer a cooler winter. Past zone 7/8 they may not thrive as they should. However I’ve known people who’ve had success in warmer climates; they just may not perform to their fullest. Care: Cotoneasters are tough little shrubs and have lent themselves very well to small and medium size bonsai in the US and parts of Europe.
