Steam Locomotive BR 44 (Sound) The locomotives of the series 44 of the Deutschen Reichsbahn were heavy, five times clutched standard steam locomotives for freight trains. They were intended for the transportation of freight trains up to 1.200 t on lines through low mountain ranges and 600 t over steep inclines.
