This is a pushrod for the Rover 3.5 V8 engine, used in the valvetrain to transfer motion from the camshaft followers to the rocker arms, which in turn actuate the intake and exhaus t valves. Worn or bent pushrods can cause misfires, tapping noises from the top end, or erratic valve timing; replacement with a correctly dimensioned rod is essential to restore accurate valve lift and timing. The 3.5 V8 runs 16 pushrods in total, so checking all rods for straightness during any top-end rebuild is advisable.
