Jack Dawe was at Rogers Pass in British Columbia on a commercial shoot for a snowboard hardgoods company, in between setups, when he pointed the telephoto at the slope above. Wind- sculpted snow rolling across the alpine in waves, a rider tiny in the middle distance, jagged peaks emerging from cloud above, two small conifers holding on in the lower corner. The mountain indifferent to the shoot happening on its face. The in-between moments are often the best ones.
