Overview 5/8-36 Spline X 3/4 Inch Bored Roller Bearing Steering U-Joint, fits the 6.4:1, 10:1, 12:1, 15:1 Ratios of Stiletto Rack-n-Pinions. The pressure angle of the tooth and size of this spline is unique to Stiletto Steering. This proprietary spline will not fit with other 5/8-36 (GM/OEM Automotive) splined components with the same spline call out. The splined end has two 1/4-28 NF set screws, offset 90 degrees from each other. This dual set screw design draws up the connection, thereby eliminating the potential of undesirable lost motion with normal spline clearance. To prevent spline deformation the locking screws are positioned to lock down in retaining groove located on splined area of the pinion. Roller Bearing Steering U-Joints are Precision in Motion These durable and smooth operating Steering U-joints are engineered for high load applications. Precision machined alloy steel bodies are fitted with caged needle bearings and a slight pre-load to create a steering joint without backlash. This results in enhanced sensitivity at the steering wheel, making even the smallest amount of steering input more effective. Designed for longevity without compromise, they are pre-greased and effectively sealed with hi-temp O-rings to retain grease in severe conditions. Capable of a maximum of 32 degrees of operating angle, with a recommended angle not to exceed 20 degrees for the smoothest result. Steering U-Joints that fit The splines in these U-joints are precision broached to the correct size. We have found that this is often not the case with competitive brands of U-joints, as they have designed their spline broaching tooling off of generations of parts in service and not to the original manufacturers specifications. Stiletto Steering Spline is Unique The pressure angle of the Stiletto 5/8-36 pinion spline is unique to Stiletto Steering. This proprietary spline design will not accept other manufacturers attempts to replicate the Stiletto 5/8-36 pinion spline, resulting in parts that they claim to fit Stiletto - but won't. GM (OEM automotive) splined components that share the 5/8-36 spline callout - also will not fit. The splines in our couplers and U-joints are precision broached to the correct profile and size for the Stiletto 5/8-36 pinion spline. We inspect and test fit each part 100% - we guarantee they will fit correctly. Stick with all genuine Stiletto Steering components and you will be fine! We offer several types of weldable splined pinion couplers to achieve a proper and secure connection between a steering shaft or drive unit and the steering box when a U-joint is not desired.
