ROM041 – Germanicus Germanicus Julius Caesar was one of the most celebrated Roman commanders of the early Imperial period and a member of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. Between AD 14 and 16 he led major campaigns across the Rhine against Germanic tribes, seeking to restore Roman prestige following the catastrophic defeat of Varus and three legions in the Teutoburg Forest in AD 9. His popularity with both the army and Roman people was considerable, and his premature death in AD 19 caused widespread mourning.
