The Ronaes shawl is inspired by marine archaeological finds at the Ronaes Skov settlement in eastern Denmark. The site bears evidence of systematic fishing - and I was inspired to use a geometric motif reminiscent of both fish scales and primitive fykes. The shawl is knitted lengthwise in garter stitch and is shaped with easy short rows. The elaborate edging is knitted on sideways. The yarn used is an organic heavy laceweight with a beautiful handle. The pattern contains written instructions whilst the lace edging is both charted and written out. Materials Required: Heavy lace weight wool (503metres/550yards) 4.5mm needles darning needle Show more
