Isparta in Turkey has a long history of rose production; in fact it is called The City of Roses. The most common variety is Rosa Damascena, the same type that is used for the classic Bulgarian Rose Oil (otto) and Absolute. The other most used type of rose in perfumery is Rose Centifolia, a French variant. We stock the famous Rose de Mai from Grasse and the luscious Rose Centifolia Absolute, Tunisia. In the words of LMR: “This unique petal rose note has a pronounced fruity top, green and spicy facets, and a touch of honey.” Rose extracts from Isparta are slightly more costly than standard Turkish products as the climate and soil produces richer and more balanced results. In Isparta, roses are still often farmed and harvested in the traditional way on multi-generational farms.
