Rose Coloured Glasses Original Painting By Daylesford Artist Elicia Ward “Turns out the rose colour was actually my own blood… those glasses they told me to wear were just as painful & poisonous as the reptilian beasts ready to devour me…” It was with this, that all twisting of perception began. Of course being polite & optimistic was of paramount importance for survival; one must fit in after all… But not healing the toxic mindset of “positivity in adversity”, so not to be seen as a “drag” in the group had rendered her vulnerable & susceptible to the disgraces & criminals in society. And actually led her to the cruelest vile slums in life. You see, when one must be optimistic they cannot speak or believe that another could be a threat. “For everyone has a good side & a bad side”, & many other excuses for any feelings of red flag warnings that could rise. All the warnings that could protect her, she was taught to deny them, and paint another more pleasant story over the top. As ridiculous as it sounds, this was what was expected. Unable to trust her own logic or gut feelings, she spent her days seeking approval at all costs, searching in hyper vigilance to all that creeps… she was denied opportunities & awaited a sentence that would near kill her… She craved the words of approval, the sounds & signs that told her that what she was doing was ok, what she should do next, & what she could do & if she was acceptable or not… Her own guidance system deemed void. Also her voice was of no value. The rose coloured glasses were placed upon her face, uncomfortable at first… though she resisted, heavy conditioning & reinforcement pounded through her being; “thou shalt not complain or be negative”, at a such a young age she thought best surrender. Aligned for survival, she must concede. For if we don’t please the ones who feed us, we shall starve. Little did they know, that this program left her vulnerable & therefore exploited, repeatedly shredded, & wounded in the most unimaginable & irrevocable ways. Shame on the fools that taught her to ‘behave’, for the wild wolf in her would never have tolerated such a berating / placating life. She would have stood tall against the creeps & devoured them first without hesitation & protected all that came after her. The essence of her was untouched. To her surprise it was as simple as saying fuck that, no I actually think you are a horrible human, and I am ok with the thought that you may not like that. What a fucking relief. And what great days to come. Knowing that she didn’t have to think the best of everyone, because let’s face it, some people are unevolved pricks that should be avoided at all costs. So if you ever catch yourself judging someone, first check in to see if it’s a genuine feeling. Don’t paint it with bullshit of kindness, some people don’t deserve your time. Also makes room for the possibility to be an inventor, and live a life beyond one’s limited conditioned beliefs, instead live within one’s authentic terms and genuine guidelines of true feelings & logic. 22/10/22 By Elicia Ward
