Oriental rose bases represent or replace natural rose oil (usually of Rosa x damascena) in a fragrance. The term "oriental" or "d'Orient" referred to such places as Persia from whe nce the Damascus rose originated. Two oriental rose bases dominated the 20th century; the first was Rose D'Orient (enriched with Orris concrete and used in L'Origan, Chypre, Miss Dior, and many more) and the second was this Rose Orientale (originally from Roure where its internal name was simply "No 6"). Rose Orientale found its way into some great fragrances, such as Tabu by Jean Carles, but its most famous outing was in the Ernest Beaux masterpiece Chanel No 5. Show more
