The blooms are large enough that a round cutter centres on one complete flower with buds around its edge. The layered petals give the baked cookie depth: the outer petals sit visibly above the inner ones rather than reading as a single flat shape. Valentine's Day and anniversaries are the obvious use, but the rose is a year-round flower and this pattern is just as at home on a summer tea table.
