Cool rough Ammonite fossil. You will receive one similar to the ones shown. These are completely raw fossils; the fronts are detailed but most of the backs are just rough fossil matrix (as shown in photo). These come a little dusty and can be washed off if desired. Ammonites were a species of mollusk that went extinct roughly 65 million years ago. Fossilized surfaces of ammonites vary greatly depending on the region where the specimen was discovered and the environmental conditions available when fossilization took place. This particular black coloration is normally due to the incorporation of manganese or other minerals into the shell during fossilization.
