In this Heritage Press edition of Roughing It, "one of the most characteristic and readable of Mark Twain's works," noted illustrator Noel Sickles contributes eleven full-color pai ntings and twenty-one black-and-white in-text brush drawings. Sickles described his illustrations as "line drawings over arbitrary color, meaning that color is suggested rather than putting it between the lines."
