Corner Fixing Plate - pressed retaining plate for the automatic transmission sump pan, corner position. The sump pan on the ZF four-speed automatic transmission is not bolted through a conventional flange. Instead the pan lip is clamped by a set of pressed plates that sit under the screw heads and spread the clamping load evenly around the sealing face. This is the angled corner plate; four are used per transmission, working together with the straight plates along the pan sides. The plates are readily distorted or cracked when the pan is dropped for a fluid and filter service, and a bent plate will not clamp the gasket evenly, leaving a leak that no amount of retorquing will cure. Inspect every plate on reassembly and renew any that is deformed, cracked or corroded.
