Rubik's Games PC CD match square colored block cubes puzzle color thinking game Type: Game Platform: Windows Publisher: Hasbro Interactive Released: 1999 Media: CD RUBIK'S GAMES Developed in part by Ern Rubik, the very man who created the cube that enthralled America in the 1980s, Rubik's Games provides a computerized version of the classic device as well as four new mind-bending games. Several varieties of each are offered, as are helpful hints for the stumped. Each game is detailed below."Rubik's Classic" -- This game brings the classic Rubik's Cube to your computer screen in full 3D. A simple mouse click turns each section or moves it around so that you may examine each side. "Pre-mixed" cubes vary in complexity and challenge you to solve them, often within a set number of moves. Cubes of various size are available, and you also have the ability to mix up your own cube from scratch."Cover Up" -- A 3D gridded surface presents itself in this game, with several differently sized "towers" of colored tiles placed on certain grids. It's your job to pick up the tiles and lay them in such a way so that every square on the surface is filled. It's not as easy as it sounds, though. The tiles can only be placed so that they vertically or horizontally still connect with the tower from which they originated. As a result, tiles of one color might block the path of another set. Size of the grid is adjustable to vary up the challenge."Zigthrough" -- Here, you must guide a string of five colored blocks to a specified destination as it snakes its way down a 3D gridded surface. In its way are previously placed colored blocks that can only be removed if three blocks of the same color line up. Failure to do so means that the blocks back up even farther as new strings attempt to make their way to the destination. Attain success by reaching the designated location or face defeat when the blocks are so backed up that another string cannot be released. Different surface sizes are available, as are different preset patterns."Rubik's Playground" -- The purpose of this game is to guide a designated number of balls into a hole. To do so, you must roll your balls so that any obstacles in the way cannot harm them or keep them from reaching the destination. Different balls react in their own way: lightweight rubber balls bounce and are quick, but can be destroyed by spikes; plastic balls are quick, light and unaffected by spikes, but don't bounce well; heavy iron balls are unaffected by spikes, but are slow and can be pulled in by magnets; and medium-weight bombs do not bounce, and they explode upon impact with anything but inside edges and corners. You often have a set of given ramps and blocks which must be placed properly in order to succeed."Paint War" -- This competitive turn-based game can be played either with a friend, over the Internet or against the computer. On a surface of 40 squares, you are the winner if you manage to "paint" 21 of them by properly placing each of your five pieces, each of which has between zero and four blocks atop it. Once placed, a piece has the ability to paint as many horizontally or vertically linked spaces as it can based on the number of blocks it holds. The other player can counter, however, by painting the squares with his or her own color and claiming any that the first player might have previously painted. The blockless piece can be used to destroy any opposing blocks. The game concludes once 21 blocks have been claimed by a player. For Windows (32-bit Systems) [*Please review compatibility/platform sections in 'What You Get']
