Oil Plus 2C is specifically designed to bond with raw wood and will not adhere properly over an existing layer unless the surface is lightly abraded with a maroon ScotchBrite-style pad. For highly absorbent woods such as Walnut or Cherry, the initial application may be absorbed unevenly, especially if the oil is not thoroughly worked into the wood, resulting in a dry or blotchy appearance. In these situations, a secondary application, referred to as a "Renovation", is recommended: simply abrade the entire surface with a maroon pad to allow adhesion, then apply an additional coat of Oil Plus 2C to achieve a uniform finish. Does Oil Plus 2C require future maintenance coats? Yes, surfaces finished with Oil Plus 2C will require some maintenance over time, especially in areas with heavy use or visible color loss.
