A long, narrow teardrop cabochon of ruby in zoisite measuring 41.3x23.6mm and weighing 52 carats. The elongated proportions give this piece a distinctive silhouette - more teardrop than classic pear - with the polished face showing a predominantly green zoisite body and a concentrated zone of magenta-pink ruby color settled toward one end of the stone. Dark hornblende inclusions are scattered across the face, as is characteristic of anyolite from this locality. Ruby in zoisite is found almost exclusively in the Longido district of Tanzania, where ruby corundum and green chrome-bearing zoisite co-crystallized in a metamorphic process. At 41.3mm in length and 52 carats, this teardrop form is a distinctive piece for pendant work, display, or lapidary collection. The elongated teardrop outline suits both standard and statement pendant settings. Untreated and natural, as it came from the deposit.
